Honouring the Resilience of Orphans: A Reflection on World Orphans Day

Last Sunday, the 20th of April, the world paused to reflect on one of the most pressing and heart-breaking challenges facing our global community—World Orphans Day. It is a day not just of remembrance, but of renewed responsibility and reflection. Around the world—and especially here in South Africa—millions of children live without the love, guidance, and safety that parents provide. Many have lost one or both parents due to war, conflict, poverty, illness, or other devastating circumstances. For these young souls, life becomes a maze of trauma, grief, and uncertainty.

But in the midst of the darkness, there is light.

Thanks to your continued support, the Power of Women and Children NPC has been able to stand as a beacon of hope and healing for many of these children. At the heart of this mission is Ithemba Labantwana Children’s Home, where love, care, and dignity are not just offered—they are lived every day.

On Thursday, we came together in a touching tribute to honour the strength and spirit of the children under our care. These are not just statistics or sad stories—they are real lives, real dreams, and real futures that deserve every opportunity to flourish.
