THE POWER OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN face Gender Based Violence and LGBTQ Rights.

PWC, a Charity, Non-profit Organization that was founded in 2004, works to create the change necessary for children, women, men and young people to enjoy equitable, healthy and happy relationships that contribute to the development of just and democratic societies.

PWC strives to achieve this goal by using human rights education and calling for human rights to be protected and fulfilled to assist citizens within the community, to promote gender equality, prevent gender-based violence, protect LGBTQ rights, poverty alleviation and reduce the spread of HIV and the impact of AIDS.

PWC works with women, men, boys and girls from all walks of life in different communities where it is operational to contribute towards stopping gender inequality, gender based violence and the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS. It’s work with communities and led by its Community Education and Mobilization Unit, that runs campaigns to mobilize communities to take action for gender equality. These campaigns aim to get communities to become active in stopping gender inequality, gender based violence and the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS by encouraging community members to form community action teams.

It also supports CAT members to use different tools and methods to attain these goals including workshops, storytelling using digital stories and photovoice, ambush theatre, street soccer, murals and community radio.

South Africa has some of the highest rates of gender based violence in the world. A study by Interpol, the International Police Agency, has revealed that South Africa leads the world in rapes. To attein gender equality, it is necessary to work towards eradicating gender based violence.
