Uniting Faiths Against Gender-Based Violence: A Historic Interfaith Campaign in South Africa

On the 16th of November 2023, history was made at the Emseni Conference Centre in Benoni, as an unprecedented alliance was forged in the battle against gender-based violence (GBV). The Faith Action to End GBV Collective launched an ambitious Interfaith Sector GBV Mobilisation Campaign, transcending religious divides to combat one of South Africa’s most pressing societal issues.

Diverse faith leaders and communities, including the Baha’i faith, Brahma Kumaris, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, and Traditional Healers, converged to take a resolute stand against GBV. This united front signifies a pivotal moment in addressing the national crisis of GBV and femicide.

At the core of this groundbreaking campaign lies a meticulously crafted Statement of Commitment. Through consultation, collaboration, and validation, this statement serves as a beacon guiding multi-stakeholder initiatives toward preventing GBV and achieving the objectives outlined in the National Strategic Plan to End GBV and Femicide.
